0 Flexible AMOLED Displays From Samsung Coming to CES.

Tablets of every shape, size, and color may be the current fad in the tech media, but Samsung has another gadget up their sleeve that they’ll be showing off â€" flexible AMOLED displays! According to their press release, the displays that we’ll see at CES measure in at 4.5-inches in size with WVGA resolution (800 x 480). No other information is available at this point, but as we’ve said many times tonight: check back next week when we hit the CES show floor!

0 New Report Pegs CDMA iPhone Announcement Before Valentines Day.

Tonight, a report published by Bloomberg claims that Apple may announce the Verizon iPhone no later than Valentines Day, 2011. I know what you’re thinking: “Ugh, another Verizon iPhone post”. But try as you might, you can’t escape the fact that such a device is a huge deal in the tech community right now, and will continue to be until the highly sought after device is eventually released. Though in regards to the report, how likely is it really that the general public will actually hold a Verizon iPhone in their hands before the summer of 2011? Not likely. Here’s why…Apple is predictable. They plan everything meticulously, combing through every tiny detail way more obsessively than your typical consumer electronic company. Launching a CDMA/Verizon-specific iPhone at any time other than their usual mid to late-summer time frame would mean two dates in which new products would appear. And Apple won’t split iPhone release dates based on the technology inside. It’s not Apple.

An exception to the above that would allow for an early 2011 CDMA iPhone release and still keep everything nice and organized would be bumping up all iPhone release schedules. That would mean the iPhone 5 could be coming in as few as 1-3 months. Given the whole antennagate fiasco and years of relentless AT&T bashing, Apple wanting to hurry thing along is certainly plausible. But that doesn’t seem very likely either.

Instead, I believe Apple will announce the Verizon iPhone early next year, with a release date lining up with current GSM iPhones. No matter how many lucky stars you count, a Verizon iPhone isn’t being publicly released until mid-2011 or later. It just doesn’t make sense.

0 Klipsch Designing Windows Phone 7 Headphones. #klipsch #wp7

Choosing a headset or specific set of headphones for an iPhone can be quite the challenge. There are literally dozens of different styles from an equally high number of different brands. For non-iDevices however, the attention isn’t nearly as great. Though Klipsch is reportedly working on changing that. A WPCentral tipster has claimed that Klipsch is working on a Windows Phone 7-specific headset complete with in-line controls for music playback. It would certainly be a worthy accessory for WP7 users.

We’re working on confirming this and/or finding out more details.

0 Motorola Cliq 2 Images Surface. #cliq2 #motorola #android

Before you settle in for the night, there’s one more treat for the mobile-loving crowd out there. Cellphone Signal managed to snag some pre-release shots of a new Motorola Android device. The phone displayed above is said to be the Motorola Cliq 2 (previously the “Begonia”). While it is in fact a “new” phone, the hardware is rather old news â€" 5-megapixel camera, wifi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and the revamped Moto BLUR UI.

One thing that has caught our eye, however, is that funky honeycomb-esque keyboard. While it certainly looks cool in pictures, I can’t help but wonder how it actually performs. And then there’s the realization that a lot of potential keyboard space is wasted on the design â€" not good on a mobile device.

As for shipping software, anything from Android 2.1-2.3 is possible. Once Motorola goes official with this phone at CES we’ll update accordingly. But if we’re to go out on a limb now regarding potential Android 3.0 rumors â€" the mid-January release date is too soon to snag the next version of Android. Not to mention, the Cliq 2 isn’t exactly a “flagship” device worthy of an exclusive launch of Android’s latest and greatest.

0 HTC Thunderbolt Photos Leak! #htcthunderbolt

Take a look before you, smartphone aficionados. This is the smartphone to get. The HTC Thunderbolt as it is being called, oozes sophistication and bleeding edge features. For starters, it is the first LTE-supporting smartphone to launch on Verizon’s LTE network. Thus far, the jury is still out on whether or not the Thunderbolt actually features a dual core processor. Obviously, our fingers are crossed. Finally, a kickstand and “Made with Google” branding ’round back finish things up. As for the latter feature, being explicitly labeled a “Google Phone” is awesome news for end users. What it means is no custom skin crap ruining the overall experience or delaying critical updates. Furthermore, carrier-branded crap and other non-Android features should be at a minimum, and at best completely absent.

But enough talk. We’ll get you more info next week at CES. For now, hop on past the break for a gallery of pictures showing every fine angle of the HTC Thunderbolt…

0 Hack a GSM Network with a $15 Phone, Laptop, and Open Source Software.

We’ve heard tales of GSM’s rather weak security many times before. But the big kicker with such stories was that it was incredibly expensive to purchase all the required hardware and software. But at the recent Chaos Computer Club (CCC) Congress), a small group of researchers were able to crack GSM transmission with nothing more than (4) sub-$15 phones, a laptop, some open source software, and programming skills.

The short version of the story goes like this: It’s far cheaper and faster to hack GSM devices in 2010 and beyond, though most of the security holes can be strengthened considerably. Simple things like randomizing “buffer bytes” (“Are you there” messages GSM networks constantly send to track devices) and stronger encryption would go a long way towards safer, more secure GSM networks.

Knowing the amount of secure transactions and conversations carried out over GSM as well as the pathetic security isn’t very reassuring. But hold off wide scale panic for now. First, check out the full article over at Wired before jumping to conclusions.

0 Palm Pixi With Front Facing Camera Spied on Sprint’s Website. #palm

Anything look strange to you top left of the Palm Pixi image? How about that front-facing camera? The Palm Pixi doesn’t currently have a front-facing camera, meaning this image is either a Photoshop spoof or mistakingly posted image of Palm Pixi refresh destined for CES. Sprint and Palm have yet to reply to our emails to confirm or deny the information before us. For now, the speculation lives on.

0 Future Android Music App Leaks! Brings Heavily Revamped UI. #android

The image before you is something that Android aficionados have been begging Google for over the last several months â€" an updated music app. Compared to iOS, webOS, and in some regards, even BlackBerry, Android’s music app is bare bones and an eye sore to boot. However, at the Google I/O 2010 press conference earlier this year, a heavily updated music app was shown off. The most obvious change was the UI. It was a lot cleaner and more modern. However, the real treat were numerous wireless capabilities, including the ability to purchase music on your desktop and then push it to your phone.

Thanks to one handy/lucky/clever XDA user, that very same updated music app can now be yours, although sadly without the handy wireless features. However, the heavily tweaked UI manages to make the jump as does a multitude of various bugs (beware). Besides the flashier graphics, a new menu button appears top right, perhaps signaling and end times for hardware buttons (at least the menu button at least). Furthermore, tapping the music app’s own icon top left takes you back to the main “home” of said app â€" A handy feature given the predictably deep nature music playlists can have.

Hop inside for a video showing it all off as well as the download link…

0 What You Need To Know about Jailbreak iPhone 3G

While the iPhone has continued to be a revolutionary product, it has some drawbacks. There are some restrictions on the iPhone, holding many back from doing some things that they would like to do with their phones. Many people believe that they have to live with these restrictions, failing to question these restrictions and failing to move to change them.

There is something that you can do to get around these various restrictions. Certain individuals have managed to jailbreak the software of the iPhone. An iPhone 3G jailbreak allows users to do things with their iPhone that they would not usually be able to do. It is important for individuals to understand everything they can before they jailbreak iPhone 3G phones and software.

What An iPhone Jailbreak Is?

Jailbreaking is a specific code that completely changes the makeup of the iPhone itself. Those who jailbreak their iPhone will be able to run any type of software that they would like to use on their phone. This works around the restrictions that apple has placed on their iPhones; individuals with an iPhone can only run software approved by Apple.

How To Jailbreak An iPhone 3G

Jailbreaking is actually relatively simple for the average user to complete. The bulk of the Jailbreaking work is completed by different hackers from around the world. They create the software and iPhone installer that is going to actually change the software of the iPhone. A few simple steps allow individuals to jailbreak their iPhone.

The Dangers of The iPhone 3G Jailbreak

There are a couple of different dangers and consequences to consider when thinking about Jailbreaking your iPhone 3G. One of the first dangers that you are going to need to worry about revolves around the security of your iPhone. There have been a couple of viruses that have directly attacked those who have jailbroken iPhone. Some of these viruses were harmless, simply trying to show people the damage that could be done to their phone without causing any damage. Other viruses have been harmless, working to steal the information of those who have iPhone 3G jailbreak software.

The other danger comes from the fact that an iPhone 3G jailbreak may not be legal. Current cases are being questioned as to the legality of jailbreaking the iPhone. There can also be issues that come from jailbroken iPhones, as the phones may not work or may be ruined because of the software changes.

Pros And Cons of iPhone Jailbreaking

There are pros and cons to the entire jailbreaking experience. People need to think about these benefits (such as downloading many iPhone applications) and consequences before they go through with an iPhone 3G jailbreak. Many will find that they are happy with their results, relishing in the ability to get around the various iPhone restrictions. If you are going to jailbreak iPhone 3G products and software, make sure that you are educated. If you know the consequences and know what you are doing, you will safely jailbreak your iPhone.

0 Which Is Better, HTC EVo 4G Or Apple IPHone 4?

As quickly as HTC launched its latest smartphone, the Evo 4G, the fans of Apple and Android lovers began their war of words. The war is not about whether the Evo 4G or the Apple iPhone is a better value for the money, it is actually about which of the two is the cooler device! It is true that the new Evo has some awesome features that no other mobile phone can match, but aren’t you more interested in figuring out what phone is better suited to your needs?

To begin with, Evo 4G has a screen size that is unrivaled among smartphones. I am talking about a 4.3 inch large screen that provides substantial room to perform every function possible on a smartphone. You won’t be suffering with cluttered tweets, shrunken websites, or looking at and tapping on icons bundled close together resulting in more than one being tapped on the swame tap. The iPhone 4 on the other hand has a much smaller screen than the Evo, but to its credit, does produce a better resolution of 960 x 640 pixels compared to Evo’s 800 x 480 resolution. Therefore, the Apple iPhone will produce a slightly superior image quality than the EVo. Which one do you prefer?

Evo 4G operates on the Android 2.1 OS platform which has been specially adapted to accomodate the Evo’s theme. As for the iPhone 4, it runs on the iOS 4. It is entirely possible if you are a fan of Mac computers, that you would prefer the iPhone. However, because both of these quality phones cost about the same, it may be a good idea to closely examine the options of both phones making making a decision.

0 How To Protect Your iPad Or iPhone?

Anyone purchasing an iPhone or iPad will learn quickly that the big open screens, and even the back and sides, are prone to “injury”. So protection is key. And there really is a huge variety of options when it comes to protecting these little guys. Especially for the iPad.

The first and most important layer of protection, according to most, are the clear film “protective skins” that go directly on the surface of the devices. These skins protect your iPhones and iPads from most potential damages and can really take a beating. Most companies pricing is fairly inexpensive for these protective skins, which makes it a no brainer for most.

A good idea as well is a hard cover case for storage and usability. There are a lot of materials made to encase your device, but something somewhat strong and portable is usually the best idea. A lot of these cases you can even fold and shape to angle your iPad or iPhone on it’s end like a television.

After you’ve chosen and applied your layers of protection, it’s important to keep your iPad or iPhone clean. Even though you should have some form of scratch protection and a hard case of some kind, small particles like dirt and dust can easily cause problems. When cleaning your device, be sure to:

* Clean with a soft and slightly damp, lint free cloth.
* Rub the open faces gently and be very careful when cleaning along the edges and near the buttons.
* It is very important to never use any cleaners or solvents as these can cause potential damages. Only use water to lightly dampen your cloth.

For the actual content protection of your device there has been a few major problems involving hackers accessing information, particularly on the iPad. Because of these problems, iPad can be secured further. It does provide strong data transmission and data storage encryption. Even still, it’s pertinent to use pass code protection as a first line of defense. If security is needed on a corporate level, iPad does provide secure methods for configuration with specific settings, policies, and restrictions.

0 Micromax launches world's lightest touch phone

Indian mobile handsets company Micromax Wednesday launched a touch screen smartphone , modu T, in partnership with Israel-based modu Limited to tap the "aspirational" segment of the consumers.

The 3.5G modu T was awarded the Guinness World Record for being the lightest touch phone in the world.

Priced at Rs.12,000, the 2.2-inch touch screen phone will be available in the market with pre-bundled 2GB memory card from Oct 22.

The phone comes with two "fy" devices, jackets, which when connected, add new features to the phone. The "camerafy" jacket converts the phone into a camera with a 5 megapixel resolution and LED flash. Alternatively, you can also "sportfy" your modu T phone and turn it into your exercise companion.

modu is a modular phone, which operates on Qualcomm's Brew operating system, offers a variety of applications such as YouTube, Google Search, Twitter, Facebook Flickr, TuneWiki, eBuddy and Snaptu.

"Innovation has been a driver for Micromax success in India and we believe that by bringing the modu T phone to India, we are targeting the 'aspirational' segment of Indian consumers, who are the early adopters of technology and passionate about electronic gadgets," said Vikas Jain, business director, Micromax.

The company also said it will launch five models in the Brazilian market and is waiting for the approval from Anatel, the telecom regulator of Brazil.

Jain said the company is also looking forward to launch tablets in the market.

"We are exploring the option of bringing tablets... however it depends on the consumer response once the third generation services are available in the market."

The company has also filed a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with securities and exchange board of India for an initial public offering (IPO).

0 StyleTap - Brings PalmOS to Your iPhone

If you’re still moping over the lack of PalmOS devices in the market, it seems that the iPhone can come to the rescue again, as StyleTap is now available for the iPhone. The catch is that you’ll need to install it through Cydia, which means jailbreaking your iPhone, not to mention that you’ll need to shell out $49.99 for the app. Of course, that’s probably a small price to pay in order to be able to use your favorite PalmOS applications again. Would you jailbreak your iPhone just to install this?
